Instead, archive your messages manually to a. Never use the Outlook or Google's (or anyone's) Archive function. They probably won't help you in your current situation but hopefully my battle scars will save you time in the future:ġ. If there exists a compatibility issue or problem with Outlook, I've encountered it, and most of these nuggets I learned through painful import processes, lost emails, Microsoft and Google customer support calls, and throwing phones at the wall. for so long, and had so many problems, that I've developed my own set of rules to make transitions like that easy. I've messed around with Outlook profiles, Google Sync, Google Applications, etc. I believe it was able to use the same profile and I simply opened the new version and it just "worked" like 2011. I didn't have those issues when installing 15. UPDATE: I cannot find a 15.8.x installer. I now need to find an old installer of the new Outlook 15.8.x so I can continue using the new Outlook without the perpetual crashing! But if you follow the steps of ShaneBenting and then rename your profile (the one containing all your email) to "Main Profile," Outlook will open and briefly show you your email but crash a fraction of a second later. His steps work if you don't have another profile beside Main Profile (i.e., if you didn't import Outlook 2011 emails into the new Outlook). There's a way to fix the crashes here (search for the steps in the post by ShaneBenting): But now that I've updated to 15.9, Outlook perpetually crashes. And until updating to 15.9 today, all was well (except for some bugs). You see, I spend a heck of a long time importing all my Outlook 2011 emails into the new Outlook.

It's still nowhere near as powerful and easy to use as the corresponding Office 2013 for Windows.

I did not try the 14.4.9 update because I don't care about that version anymore.I only keep it on my Mac as a backup until Office 15 is official.įor anyone from Microsoft reading this, Office 15 still *****. If you like, you can go back and attempt the 14.4.9.

Those should download and install fine after you uncheck Office 2011 14.4.9. Uncheck the update for Office 2011 14.4.9, so that it does NOT download this update, and do the updates for Excel, Word, etc. Updating is particularly bothersome, as it seems they attempt to access the same files simultaneously (guess).įor this specific update (again, if you have both Office 2011 and 15 installed on your Mac), the one Microsoft dropped today, you'll notice there are several updates for Office 15.9 but you should also notice an update for Office 2011 14.4.9. If you have Office 2011 and Office 15 installed side-by-side on Mac, you'll no doubt have encountered issues thus far. Is it possible you're participating in the Office 15 for Mac trial with Office 2011 for Mac also installed on your Mac? If so, you're probably encountering the same issue I had, which led me to this support entry.
